Abstract
This study centred on Impact of global crises on vocational education with a focus on Home Economics education in South-Eastern Nigeria. It adopted a descriptive survey design to elicit opinions from respondents. The study population consisted of all teachers and students of Home Economics department of four (4) Colleges of Education selected from South-Eastern Nigeria. Using simple random sampling technique, a sample size of one hundred (100) respondents comprising of forty Home Economics teachers and sixty (60) students (forty (40) undergraduates (Degree) and twenty (20) Nigeria Certificate in Education NCE) were selected. Data was collected using a 24-item structured questionnaire designed to follow a 4-point rating scale of Most High Extent, Very High Extent, High Extent and Low Extent. Data was analysed using means and standard deviation statistics for the three Research Questions formulated while z-test statistics was used for testing the three Hypotheses at 0.05 level of significance. The study found out that global conflicts’ climate change impacted negatively on family finances, family health, and family development amongst others. Based on these findings, it was recommended that the Ministry of Health (Federal and State), Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and National Emergency Manage Authority (NEMA) need to adequately provide remedial measures in term of family health, family nutritional needs, family finances and family development to cushion the impact of the global crises on home economics education so as to positively alleviate the negative effect of this crisis on the home.
