STRATEGIES FOR MOTIVATING TECHNICAL TEACHERS’ PRACTICAL SKILLS IN TECHNICAL COLLEGES IN RIVERS STATE.

Abstract

This study was designed to evaluate the human and material resources in Strategies for motivating technical teachers’ practical skills in technical colleges in Rivers State. A survey research design was adopted and one research question was raised.. Structured questionnaire was used for data collection and two experts face validated the instrument. A 10-item questionnaire was administered to 117 technical teachers’ from the research areas comprising of 25 semi-urban and 92 urban technical teachers’ in the technical colleges of Rivers State. The data was analyzed using mean, standard deviation and t-test. The t-test statistics was used to test the null hypotheses at 0.05 level of significance. The findings of the study revealed that there was the need for motivation of teachers in technical colleges. Accomplishing a task in practical project is extrinsic motivation to technical teachers’ in semi-urban and urban technical colleges in Rivers State. The findings revealed that nine of the items were accepted, only one item was rejected which should be addressed based on the strategies for motivating technical teachers’ skills in technical colleges of Rivers State, with emphases on motivation for the improvement of technical teachers. It was recommended that motivation and necessary skills training should be given to technical teachers, which will encourage them to work hard in their various Colleges.
